About Us

Our Humble Beginnings
In 1896, E.G. Parkes began his journey in the lumber industry as a buyer and broker, selling timber on consignment to the L&N Railroad. By 1924, he partnered with Charles Ray and Robert Black to establish "Parkes and Black," a sawmill and retail business. The company evolved into "E.G. Parkes and Sons" in 1928 when his sons, William and Edward N. Parkes, joined the venture. In 1946, the business was renamed "Parkes Lumber Company," solidifying its legacy as a family-owned enterprise dedicated to serving the Lawrenceburg community
